As we move forward into 2014 and a brand new year for the Trails Foundation, here’s what’s on our plate:
Obtain approvals for Sugarloaf to Sugarlump Trail.
Explore feasibility of Baldwin Lake Loop and Ride Park.
Complete the South Shore System in partnership with USFS.
SIGNS, MAPS, & DIRECTIONAL INFORMATION
Complete installation of South Shore trail (brown “carsonite”) signs.
Plan, manufacture, and install trailhead signs and directional signs at trailhead junctions on the South Shore.
Update digital map files for Big Bear Valley trails and work on strategy for signs and interactive map applications.
TRAIL MAINTENANCE AND BUILDING
Set up a system of notification and response for trail maintenance issues.
Support government agencies as they provide maintenance on local trails.
Coordinate and supervise volunteers as they maintain our local trails.
DIVERSIFY AND INCREASE MEMBERSHIP
Host monthly outdoor activities for members and a booth in the Forest called “Find the Foundation” on busy weekends.
Approach groups and businesses, both local and down the hill, with invitations to join us on the trails in Big Bear.
Communicate with current and past members to ensure annual membership renewal.
SECURE STABLE AND DIVERSE SOURCES OF FUNDING
Aggressively pursue grant opportunities.
Design and sell Trails Foundation schwag at local venues.
Partner with like minded organizations to provide a mutually beneficial financial arrangement.
