Come on, come all, and help us get this thing started. It’s turned into a complete rethinking of the South Shore Trail System, and, fortunately, we have IMBA’s help!

Join us on Saturday, July 14th at 1pm to get your hands dirty, learn something about trail building, and rework the worked out sections of the Fern Trail. This is “Trail Building 101”, so we’ll start with the basics under the tutelage of Mr. Patrick Kell, regional director of the International Mountain Biking Association. Here’s the dirt:

What: Skyline & South Shore Trail Work and Play Day
The day includes training by IMBA staff, trail work on the Skyline & South Shore Trail System followed by a free BBQ, music, and a rousing Trail Balls Tournament! Come find out if you’ve got the best Trail Balls in the Big Bear Valley!
Where: Meet at top of Fern on 2N10 (Map)
When: 1 pm – 5:00 p.m. with BBQ and Trail Balls Tournament to follow
Why: Trail work makes you feel good and our trail system great. Plus you’ll get free food and a chance to test your skills at Trail Balls (a.k.a. Petanque).

Step 1: Pack a bag with water, suntan lotion, and gloves if you’ve got a pair you like
Step 2: Dress yourself for work in sturdy shoes, layers of clothes (long sleeves & pants may be needed if you want to get into the buckthorn), and sunglasses.
Step 3: Ride a bike or walk to Club View where it meets 2N10 at the edge of Moonridge. If you drive, you will need to park on the road and walk up.

WAIT!!! Why aren’t we working on the actual Skyline Trail? We’re still waiting on the final approval from the Forest Service on the cost share agreement that will ultimately provide us with $80,000 in matching funds. While this seemed final back on June 2nd, we’re still waiting…and it WILL be worth it. In the meantime, we’re going to develop some momentum and do some good. Please come join us this time, and everytime, we work on our trails.
