BIG BEAR MOUNTAIN BIKE LEGENDS
CHAINRING OF HONOR INDUCTION
Wednesday October 2, 2019 5:30 p.m. Nottinghams

The Big Bear Mountain Bike Legends are happy to announce the 2019 Chainring of Honor Inductees. The 2019 Inductees are Dick Kun, Larry Longo, and the Cook Family; Driz, Dawn, Aaron, and Madeleine (Maddy).

Dick Kun played an instrumental and significant role in the growth of mountain biking at Snow Summit, in Big Bear, and at ski resorts across the country. With a push from Pat Follett, Dick blessed putting hooks on the chair and transporting mountain bikes up the chair lift. Snow Summit was the first resort in the country to transport non race mountain bikes. Dick was a constant supporter of racing at the resort, which brought tens of thousands of racers and people to Big Bear. Snow Summit saw many National Championship events, the first Winter X Games, which featured Mountain Bikes, and a couple of World Cups, all due to Dick’s support.

Larry Longo, the voice of mountain biking in Big Bear and across the country for 30 years. Larry began his career calling local mountain bike races at Snow Summit. As the sport grew, so did the demand for top tier announcers. So Larry stepped up and began traveling across the country announcing all the top level mountain bike races in the country. Larry has probably made a finish line call on many National Champions, World Cup Champions, World Champions and Olympic Athletes and Olympic Champions. Larry has left an impression on this sport and will continue to do so.

The Cook’s, Driz, Dawn, Aaron and Maddy, have been a driving force behind the Big Bear Trails Foundation. In the early days of the Trails Foundation’s trail work, the Cook’s were a constant work force, always happy to be there, always working hard, and it seemed always there. As a family, they dedicated countless hours to help build and maintain the trails we love. Driz continues to work tirelessly on the master trail plan for the valley, as well as, the recently discussed Rim Trail. The Cook’s are a force and we are lucky to have them serving our trail community.

The Induction Ceremony is open to everyone, whether you ride a mountain bike or not, whether you work on a trail or not. It is a fundraiser, this year, for the Southern California Mountains Foundation / Big Bear Trails Foundation. Tickets are $55, which include your first beverage and a wonderful buffet at Nottinghams.

If you are interested in attending please contact Team Big Bear’s Tom Spiegel at 909.633.6729, or email at teambigbear@aol.com.

We are also looking for some mountain bike shots from the past, here in Big Bear, racing, and, or non-racing. Please take the time to share those shots with us, email them to teambigbear@aol.com or Tom can pick them up and return them to you at the Induction Ceremony.

One last note, Team Big Bear is donating $500 to the School Trails Project. It is a large piece of land next to Baldwin Lane School andBig Bear High School. Donations to that project can be made at the Induction Fundraiser.

See you on October 2nd at 5:30 p.m.
